Students Earn History Awards

Babylon High School 2004 valedictorian Casey Graziani received the Percival Award for Excellence in History presented by the Village of Babylon Historical and Preservation Society. The $500 award is offered annually to the highest scoring high school senior who resides in Babylon Village. Graziani’s 99 average in social studies and score of 99 on the History Regents earned him this award.
This year, the Historical Society also recognized other high achievers and presented $250 awards to Lindsay Barhold who attended St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School and Kathryn Hein who attended West Babylon High School.
In addition to sponsoring this scholarship, the Historical Society reaches out to Babylon’s elementary-aged school children through a unique local history program offered at the museum (117 W. Main St.). Designed for fourth graders, this educational series teaches youngsters about Babylon’s beginnings from the time of the Indians, through its farming and milling days, to its heyday as a resort community.
